DIVERSITY HOUSE PROJECT

We purchased a twenty two room motel unit at 2020 Ingleside Avenue to use as Single Room Occupancy (SRO) housing for homeless and at risk homeless people living with AIDS and those in need of more supportive services than we can deliver to them in their own homes.

This was accomplished by writing a grant for acquisition money from the State of Georgia through money the State receives from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in their Housing Opportunities for People With AIDS (HOPWA) funding program. We were successful in competing with some 500 other grant requests for this small pot of money. We were awarded the maximum award of $150,000. The property we had in mind was much more expensive, $207,000 - and it needed some work.
